The Eastern District Branch is a branch of the Air Force Intelligence. It is headquartered in the city of Deir al-Zor, and it operates in the governorates of Deir al-Zor, Raqqa, and Al-Hasaka. In July 2020, Opposition websites reported the killing of Brigadier General Jihad Zaal, Director of the Air Force Intelligence in the eastern region, who had led the branch since November 2017 and was close to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.
